Down Syndrome

With more than 30 years of experience in manufacturing cooling garments for people living with heat intolerance, we hear from many individuals on how our cooling products have helped them live a happier and more enjoyable life.

"My son was born with Down Syndrome and has a hard time with heat. With this vest we have been able to play outside without the constant worry of him overheating. His safety means everything to us and this vest certainly helps my husband and I worry a little less. On a side note: The vest is super cute on my little man! We got the light blue one thinking it would not absorb as much heat as the darker ones. I could not be happier with this product!" - Courtney in Roanoke, Virginia

Heat Related Issues with Down Syndrome:
In a study examining exercise and body surface temperatures in people with Down syndrome, researchers noted, "Cocchi concluded that people with DS are clearly intolerant of heat, which can be connected with the improper functioning of the thermoregulatory mechanism in the hypothalamus. This conclusion had been supported by his earlier research on people with trisomy 21.” Source: Analysis of body surface temperatures in people with Down syndrome after general rehabilitation exercise Journal of Thermal Analysis and Calorimetry

In the article, "Warning Signs a Person with Down Syndrome is Getting Overheated,” Brian Chicoine, MD notes that "Exercise is important for people with Down syndrome just as it is for all people. However, some people with Down syndrome don’t sweat much and can get overheated more easily. If a person becomes mildly overheated, treat by stop exercising and rest in a cool place, drink cool liquids, apply cool water or wet cloth to the skin, and loosen clothing.
