Details: Hello from Canada! My wife had bilateral knee replacement surgery in May 2024. In the weeks previous, I had researched various cool therapy systems from many different manufacturers. After watching a YouTube review by physiotherapist "Dr Sam”, we were convinced that the Polar Products Active Ice® 3.0 Double Universal Rectangular Cold Therapy System was the best choice for her post-surgery use. This full system came with the 9-quart reservoir, the two large rectangular cold therapy pads, a total of 4 long Velcro-style straps, the 2-pad to 1-reservoir Y-adapter hose assembly, the power pack and the timer controller. Setup of the 2-pad system was very intuitive. In literature she received before the surgery, the hospital requested that orthopaedic patients bring their own cold therapy equipment with them for starting the recovery process. While she was in hospital, a large absorbent pad provided the isolation from each cooling pad coming into direct contact with the skin around each knee, and only one long Velcro strap was needed to wrap twice around each knee to hold each cool therapy pad in place. The medical staff at the hospital had never seen the Polar Products Active Ice® 3.0 Cold Therapy System previously, and many positive comments about the system were heard during my wife’s 4-day stay in hospital. During her hospital recovery, the hospital provided cubed ice for the cold system reservoir. At home, the large rectangular cold therapy pads gave us the opportunity to re-work the cooling system setup, allowing each rectangular pad to become either the top or bottom of a "double-knee sandwich”. One cold therapy pad with a large absorbent pad above it was placed under both her knees, and a large rolled bath towel her knees lifted the middle of the lower rectangular pad to get better contact with the skin. Then another cooling pad was placed above another large absorbent pad covering the top side of both knees. This setup made it more convenient to get the cold therapy system started up and stopped whenever it was needed. At home, we used frozen 0.5 litre water bottles in the system reservoir. We both feel that for her recovery immediately following surgery in the hospital and later in the home environment, the two large rectangular cooling pads with the Polar Products Active Ice® 3.0 Cold Therapy System provided the most practical, convenient and flexible option for pain and swelling mitigation following her knee replacement surgery. We give this Polar Products Active Ice® 3.0 Cold Therapy System a total of "4-Thumbs Up”! - Irma and Jordan M., Winnipeg, Canada
